Houston, TX (PRWEB) May 25, 2011
On May 12, firm mattress has organized an event presentation and giving the kick-off their national support for research on pancreatic cancer and awareness. In partnership with Simmons Bedding Co., President and CEO firm mattress, Steve Stagner, presented a check for $ 157 550 to Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, TGen and on globalCure, in honor of Houston? Marvin Zindler S own, who died of pancreatic cancer in July 2007.
For eleven days in April, in partnership with firm mattress Simmons Bedding Co., makers of Beautyrest mattresses, in a promotion that donates $ 50 to globalCure for each soil sample Simmons Beautyrest sold double wide nearly 700 national firm mattress stores. The promotion was a huge success resulting from the presentation of the check $ 157 550.
? To be able to increase the amount of money that we made in less than two weeks is inspiring? Stagner said. ? It is a cause that has affected many of our employees and the passion to make a difference really shines in our culture.?
The event was held at the University of Houston Hilton and star Jai Pausch and Dr. Daniel Von Hoff as speakers. Jai Pausch, wife of Randy Pausch who is the author of the bestseller The Last Lecture, exchanged a look raw and personal about how pancreatic cancer affected her family and why the disease is in desperate need of funding and awareness. Pausch, a member of the National Consultative globalCure, leased Stagner and retailer based in Houston mattress.
? As an advocate who knows how pancreatic cancer can be devastating for patients and their families, I applaud firm mattress? s commitment to globalCure, and their efforts to bring much needed resources and attention to our fight? Pausch said.
Pausch? s move was followed by Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, TGen? s chief medical officer and one of the world of? leading authorities on cancer of the pancreas. Dr. Von Hoff noted that early detection of pancreatic cancer is lacking, the survival rate remains low, and federal funding is a net to a river of need.
“Discoveries directly monitor the funding and pancreatic cancer receives little in comparison with the percentage of life that must be,” said Dr. Von Hoff, who heads the team of 46 doctors from around the world that form the backbone of globalCure.? Having the desire to raise firm mattress globalCure ™ s efforts, and the money raised will enable us to aggressively pursue the underlying genetic causes of disease and lead an unprecedented number of new therapeutic approaches to patient care.
The event ended with the presentation of the check to Dr. Von Hoff and a surprise gift of an additional $ 30,000 announced by Steve Stagner. Others recognized on stage during the presentation of the check: Dan Zindler, son of the late Marvin Zindler, Ed Brandon, Marvin Zindler dear friend and former Channel 13 meteorologist Jai Pausch, Magowitz Roger, founder of the Seena Magowitz, Derek Miller, Director of National Accounts, Simmons Bedding Co.;. and Brad Bailey, senior vice president of national accounts, Simmons Bedding Co.
? My father would be absolutely delighted that firm mattress is taken on this cause? Dan Zindler said. ? It? S something that needs to be supported and what Dr. Von Hoff is going to make great progress for patients with pancreatic cancer.?
That night, Steve Stagner has organized a private dinner at Tony? s with Dr Von Hoff, Jai Pausch, and community leaders in Houston. During dinner, the guests shared in an intimate conversation and stories that moved to tears. Stimulate this reaction is exactly what I hoped Stagner. ? Awareness is the key to progress and that s? Why we invited all of you here tonight? Stagner said early in the evening.
Stagner said he hopes the firm mattress support? s going to multiply by globalCure and to search for pancreatic cancer and the discovery that the foundation Susan G. Komen has done for the fight against breast cancer.
? We have the opportunity to educate our customers about our efforts beyond the sales floor. We have the opportunity to get involved and engaged with our communities, and impact the lives of more than 43,000 Americans are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year? Stagner said.
Pancreatic cancer is the nation
? the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths and is the only one of 10 cancer killer with a survival rate to single digits. Nearly 75 percent of the 43,000 Americans diagnosed each year about dying in the first year. Only 6 percent survive more than five years. In addition, less than 2 percent of the National Cancer Institute funded? S federal research devoted to research of pancreatic cancer.
